A 19-year-old man has been arrested in North West Delhi for allegedly stabbing his neighbour following repeated incidents of harassment involving the victim’s sister, police said on Saturday.

According to the Delhi Police, the accused was apprehended within hours of the incident, which led to the registration of a case of attempted murder.


Incident and Allegations

Police said the case originated from a complaint filed by the victim’s sister, who alleged that the accused, a resident of the same neighbourhood, had been harassing her for some time.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly made inappropriate gestures whenever she passed by. The woman reportedly warned him to stop and indicated that she would inform her family if the behaviour continued.

Police officials said the accused allegedly responded with threats, warning her against disclosing the matter.


Stabbing Incident

The incident took place on the evening of March 12 at around 8:30 pm.

According to police, the accused allegedly attacked the woman’s brother with a knife and inflicted multiple stab injuries before fleeing the scene.

The injured individual was provided medical attention. Police have not disclosed further details regarding his condition.


Police Action and Arrest

Following the incident, a case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:

  • Section 109(1) – Attempt to murder
  • Section 74 – Use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty

A police team initiated an investigation using CCTV footage analysis and local intelligence inputs.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Akanksha Yadav, multiple raids were conducted, leading to the arrest of the accused.

During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted involvement in the incident. Police said he had developed a grievance after being confronted by the victim’s family regarding his behaviour.

Officials stated that the attack was carried out in anger and as an act of retaliation.


No Prior Criminal Record

Police said the accused does not have any previous criminal record.

Further investigation is ongoing to establish all aspects of the case, including the sequence of events leading up to the incident.


Police Advisory to Public

Delhi Police has urged residents, particularly women and girls, to report incidents of harassment or eve-teasing at the earliest.

Officials emphasised that timely reporting can help prevent escalation and enable law enforcement agencies to take prompt action.

The accused is expected to be produced before a court, and further legal proceedings will follow as per applicable law.

Police will continue their investigation, including gathering additional evidence and recording statements from witnesses.

Authorities have indicated that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law based on the findings of the investigation.
